Going in the right directions

I just attended IDC’s 48th annual Business Briefing—Directions 2013 in Santa Clara, and was truly impressed with the event. In particular, the general sessions were great. The discussion about competing on the 3rd Platform (Big Data, Mobile Broadband, Social Business and Cloud Services) is insightful and exciting. When I first started paying attention to this topic back in late 2012, I wasn’t convinced that we were entering this new paradigm. A few short months later my perspective has changed—and I think they’ve done a good job of evolving their analysis and content to help us frame our understanding of how we’re already in it, and where it’s going.

Frank Gems’ session on the death of dedicated IT and the rise of shared IT defined by everything as-a-service (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, etc.), enabled by virtualization, and characterized by a continued push toward public, private or hybrid clouds was right on target. His line of reasoning made it abundantly clear that, in order to achieve their goals, enterprise IT shops must be able to assure infrastructure agility and performance throughout their transformation and beyond. We’re definitely seeing this from our own customers in every vertical, and several are now evolving their teams to include a performance management focus specifically.

Guaranteeing that infrastructures supporting mission-critical applications are healthy, continuously available and optimally performing is why Virtual Instruments is in business. It makes me happy to know we’re helping our Global 2000 customers confidently and quickly achieve their goals. IDC talked about the importance of IT and Line of Business (LOB) leaders working together and we agree… this is the future of business. Our solution is focused on supporting both parties—aligning them as partners and informing them with the right data to run their business—while helping their IT shops and the Lines of Business they support, align as partners and informed collaborators.

Thanks to IDC and to all of your analysts for a well-orchestrated, highly informative event!
