Forrester’s findings on the state of Infrastructure Performance Management

Vikram Ramesh, Sr. Product Marketing Director –

When was the last time your company had an IT outage? If your business is anything like the majority of global enterprises, chances are you experience some degree of infrastructure downtime or poor performance on a more frequent basis than you or your IT team would like. With more and more businesses using complex technology, such as hybrid cloud environments and software-defined data centers, these performance challenges and outages are becoming more common. Poor performance left unchecked can turn into lost revenues, unhappy customers and unmitigated risk for any enterprise. And it’s more pervasive than you know.

But don’t just take our word for it.

Earlier this year, we worked with Forrester Research to analyze just how problematic and pervasive the performance monitoring, downtime and troubleshooting challenges were to enterprises across all industries. Forrester conducted a survey to get to the heart of these challenges and find the most common resolutions taken by enterprises.

Forrester surveyed more than 150 IT infrastructure decision-makers and operators to determine where they and their companies fall on the spectrum of managing these infrastructure obstacles. Some of the most prevalent obstacles include complex technologies, such as hybrid cloud and software-defined data centers, which are increasing the frequency and severity of performance challenges.

We’re conducting a webinar on November 19 with Forrester and Cognizant to discuss our findings. Here’s a sneak peek into some of the key takeaways:

  • After identifying a lapse in performance, 50 percent of respondents found that resolving the issue took them anywhere from several hours to more than an entire day, and only 18 percent were able to solve issues within a few minutes.
  • Forty-four percent of respondents cited said one reason they couldn’t reach quick resolutions was because they couldn’t internally agree on the root cause of the problem.
  • Despite the perceived convenience and efficiency of virtualization, 43 percent of respondents said it makes resolving performance degradation more difficult.
